Ok, so my dog year is almost gone, and the new year is approaching. There has been lotsof questions with regards to the chinese lunar calander, its history and its signifiance. Sadly, i have to say my knowledge is quite limited.
From wikipedia, they gave quite an amount of information on chinese new year celebrations. Starting from its name, its myths and origins.
Although its festivities for most of us dominate around the red packets we get, and the tremendous amount of food, there are much more to it beneath.
Days b4 the new yr:
One is suppose to do "spring cleaning" to rid one of all bad luck for the coming new year.
Some people decorate their window panes/doors with auspicious chinese phrases and red paint.
1st day of new yr:
no one is suppose to clean the house.
Reunion dinner happens on the new yr's eve. As many family members as possible will join in this huge fest. Significant dishes include fish & chicken. Fish represent surpluses for the yr. (u are not suppose to finish your food...) There are many other dishes that signify different things, go read it up yourself. HEE
